BSHP Annual Pet Run 3k, 6k, 10k

The Big Sky Horse Park and the Missoula Horse Council welcomes all dog owners to the 3rd Annual Pet Run on May 4th, 2024! We welcome you, your dog, your friends, family and neighbors to a fun filled day of racing, prizes, vendors, and pet portraits at the Big Sky Horse Park in Missoula, MT. This is a competitive, timed running event limited to 1 dog per human. This year walkers and runners with their leashed companions will complete 3 km or 6 km (1 or 2 laps) on fine crushed gravel within the boundaries of the Big Sky Horse Park. We've expanded this year to include a 10k that will link the DNR land to the east of the Big Sky Horse Park across Tower Street.

Though our visitors enjoy off leash privileges at Big Sky Horse Park most days, a leashed rule will be enforced for the entirety of race day.
About the BSHP Pet Run
The Big Sky Horse Park, located at the heart of Missoula County, is beautifully maintained and actively preserved by a board of equestrian focused volunteers- all of whom are also dog owners! The Missoula Horse Council leases more than 90 acres of the park from Missoula County to host events and provide open space for all. Though equestrian activities are seasonal, the Big Sky Horse Park is open 365 days of the year to walkers, runners, dog owners, and high school track teams.

The primary purpose of the BSHP Pet Run is to bring these communities together to share the beauty, location, and non-equestrian benefits of the park. Because the Big Sky Horse Park is not a dedicated park, it is always at risk of disappearing and being replaced by development. We need your support to protect the park for the longterm. The best way to do so is to become a Non-Rider Member! Your yearly $25 membership helps pay for the upkeep and preservation of the wildlife habitat and green space inside the Big Sky Horse Park.

3k Race: 1 lap around the gravel perimeter trail. Cones and flags will guide your way.

6k Race: 2 laps around the gravel perimeter trail. Cones and flags will guide your way.
​
Possible 10k Race: Extends into the DNR paths east of the Big Sky Horse Park across Tower Road.
