The sport of O-Mok-See originates with the Blackfoot Indian Tribe where they described a particular style of riding as ”oh-mak-see pass-kan” meaning “riding big dance.” The second syllable of the first word is pronounced like our English word mock. Gymkhana is a term use in the United Kingdom, East Coast of the United States, and other English-speaking nations to describe an equestrian event consisting of timed games for riders on horses. These events often emphasize children’s participation and may be organized by a recognized Pony Club or a 4-H club.
Ribbons were given for first through sixth place for all races in all age groups. Many riders are new to Omoksee and new to the Big Sky Horse Park. Many of our riders have grown up with this Omoksee series since it started 9 years ago. It has been wonderful to see these riders grow and improve with their horses and/or move into new horses.
Year-end awards for the 2023 O-mok-see were:
Cheyanne Thompson riding Classy - 0-9 year-old Buckle
Allia Sant riding Keith Urban - 10-13 year-old Buckle
Addison Sant riding Victor - 14-17 year-old Buckle
Katie Baca riding Diago – Adult Buckle.
To be in the running for the end of the year award, you must participate in at least 2 Omoksees during the year. You must enter by the second Omoksee to be eligible. Assisted riders are not eligible for year-end awards.
Points are given as follows:
10 points for first place
8 points for second place
6 points for third place
4 points for fourth place
